The number of balance Responsible Parties (BRPs) have continued to increase from 188 at the end of 2023 to total of 224 by the end of 2024. The growth considered all Nordic countries where Denmark stands out with the greatest BRP amount growth in 2024 from 74 to 97. As of the beginning of 2025, 18% of BRPs in the Nordic region were operating in more than one country.

 

The average imbalance prices in the Nordics were slightly lower in 2024 compared to 2023. From April to December 2024, Denmark recorded the highest monthly average imbalance prices among the Nordic countries.

 

Production and consumption volumes showed a slight recovery in 2024 compared to 2023.

 

The total Imbalance sales volumes settled by eSett reached 36.6 TWh in 2024, marking a 12% increase from 2023. Denmark demonstrated decrease by 2.3% (from 6.43 TWh to 6.4 28TWh), while Norway displayed a growth rate of 21.8 % (from 12.93 TWh to 15.76 TWh). Finland and Sweden experienced total imbalance sales quantities in 2024 of 4.57 TWh and 9.96 TWh with growth rates of 4.6 % and 11.5%, respectively.

Total imbalance sales amounts saw a significant decrease of 51% in 2023 compared to the energy crisis years of 2022, dropping from 4,140 M€ to 2,050 M€. The total imbalance sales amounts in 2024 compared to 2023 deceased by 21% from 2 050 M€ to 1 620 M€.
